Eldritch In Your Cup

It’s no secret that I’m an H.P. Lovecraft fan and was thrilled when Cthulhu became popular. Though it has become one of those things where most people know of Cthulhu but don’t know what Cthulhu is. Much like how people know Arwen and Aragorn got together in the end of Return of the King, but don’t know that they were related.
I’m not one of those nerds who grumbles about how I’m a true fan of something and others just like something because it’s cool. I like having people know these things that were once considered nerd territory and should be shunned or else the nerdiness might be caught. I also like being the go to girl for facts and considered a semi-expert in certain nerd popular areas in the office.

But the thing I love most is that when I draw something like Eldritch In Your Cup and it getting a positive response from the public. Rather than the “What is this? You’re weird.” response I got in the 90s.

Worst part of waking up is Old Ones in your cup.

Eldritch In Your Cup
was technically drawn in 2013, but fully dried in 2014. So I’m considering this the first Art of Dawn artwork for 2014. Wooo!

This started as an ink drawing, that I thought I was just going to use Copic Markers to color it. But then I decided that I wanted to try adding watercolors in the mix. I’ve painted with watercolors before, but they were never my forte. I’ve always been more comfortable with mediums that I have more control over. But drawing Old Ones trapped in an cup with an Elder Sign is something that shouldn’t be comfortable, so I decided to take the plunge and decided to use watercolor to the art. Surprisingly it turned out great and I just might have to do watercolors again in the future.
