Zombie Ranch 251 – How Green Was My Alley
We (the writer and I) debated a lot on how the cage path to the zombie pen should look. For cattle, some researchers (like Temple Grandin) suggest a curved path so they feel encouraged to go forward and not stop. But people are a little different.
When you go to Disneyland, you might have noticed that they tend to not have straight paths to the rides anymore (some of the older rides might still have them). This is because the zig zag lines tends to make the line seem a little shorter and people don’t get so irritated when they’re in line – than the line goes into a building and you realize that it’s a lot longer than you thought, but you say to yourself “well I’ve been in this line this long, can’t back out now”.
For the most part, this path is straight, we don’t want the zombies to stop, but keep moving forward. The zombies in the front see Suzie and chase after her, the zombies that can’t see her just see how riled up the zombies ahead of them are and instinct tells them food is up ahead.
We decided to have all the panels be long panels because it fits the pacing of what we wanted, we didn’t want it to seem like it’s going by super fast. But also didn’t want it to seem that they were moving at a snails pace. I also like it because it sort of gives it a somewhat cinematic action movie feel.
